Save GME Video Contest Official Rules

  • No purchase or payment of any kind is necessary to enter or win.
  • The “Save GME” Video Contest encourages medical students, residents and fellows at LCME-accredited medical schools to submit videos that creatively answer the question “How would GME cuts affect me?”
  • Videos, from 30 seconds up to 60 seconds in duration, will be judged by a panel of AMA employees. Videos will be judged on message impact: communicating the effect of proposed cuts to Graduate Medical Education (GME), particularly on students and the American health care system. One winner will be selected but other videos may be selected for editing and publication by the AMA.
  • AMA plans to edit and publish the videos of the winner and selected finalists.
  1. AGREEMENT TO BE BOUND BY CONTEST RULES: By submitting a video, each Submitter agrees to be bound by these Official Rules and the decision(s) of the contest Sponsor, the American Medical Association (“AMA” or “Sponsor”), whose decisions shall be final.

  2. ELIGIBILITY: Medical students, residents and fellows enrolled in medical schools accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education in the United States and possessions are eligible to submit videos. The Contest is not open to entry where prohibited by law and the following are ineligible to enter this contest: persons under 18 years of age, AMA employees, AMA board members, AMA vendors, members of the AMA Medical Student Section Governing Council, members of the AMA Resident Fellow Section Governing Council or the immediate families of any of the foregoing.

  3. CONTEST TIMING: The video contest submission period shall begin 9 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on Monday, August 12, 2013 and end at 12:01 a.m. EST on November 1, 2013. The contest judging will take place between November 1, 2013 and November 8, 2013. Winners will be announced on or about November 16, 2013 at the AMA Interim Meeting at Gaylord National, National Harbor, Maryland and notified by email.

  4. TO ENTER: During the contest entry period, Submitters should log on to http://savegme.org/share-your-story/ and follow the online instructions to upload the Submitter’s video submission (“Post My Video”). Submissions received through other channels will not be accepted.

  5. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
    Submissions must:
    •be between 30 seconds and 60 seconds in duration; and
    •comply with these Official Rules and these submission guidelines.

    The person uploading the submission will be deemed the Submitter. The Submitter is the one person who is the authorized account holder of the e-mail address associated with that submission. If a team elects to collaborate on a submission, the team is required to designate one person as the Submitter who will be the agent for the team, authorized to enter the contest and to agree to these rules on each team member’s behalf. Eligible parties can enter as often as they wish. All submissions must be received within the contest submission period. The contest Sponsor’s website computer is the official timekeeping device for this contest.

    Submissions cannot (a) be sexually explicit or suggestive, violent or derogatory of any ethnic, racial, gender, religious, professional or age group, profane or pornographic, contain nudity or any materially dangerous activity; (b) contain trademarks, logos or trade dress owned by others, or advertise or promote any brand or product of any kind (other than the “Save GME” or AMA’s trademarks, logos, brands or products), without permission, or contain any personal identification, such as license plate numbers, personal names, email addresses or street addresses without permission; (c) contain copyrighted materials owned by third parties (including photographs, sculptures, paintings and other works of art or images published on or in websites, television, movies or other media) without permission; (d) contain the image of any individual under the age of 18; (e) contain materials embodying the names, likenesses, photographs, or other indicia identifying any person, living or dead, without permission; (f) use any music that has not been licensed for such use; (h) contain images of any of the items set forth at the Picture Archive Council of America’s online listing found at http://www.pacaoffice.org/resources/specialReleases.html, (many of which are considered branded items ); (i) depict a violation of any law; or (j) violate the law. Submissions cannot defame, misrepresent or contain disparaging remarks about people, products or companies or communicate messages or images inconsistent with the positive images and/or goodwill to which the AMA and the Save GME effort wish to associate. AMA reserves the right to screen submissions prior to posting them to the website and the “Save GME” Video Contest webpage. All submissions become the sole property of AMA, and will not be acknowledged or returned. Submissions may be edited and published on “Save GME” and AMA-related websites and otherwise distributed as AMA, in its sole discretion, may decide.

    AMA has no obligation to use or post any submission. IMPORTANT: By providing a submission, the Submitter grants ownership to the AMA. After submission, AMA will have the exclusive, perpetual right to copy, license, publish, broadcast, display, distribute, use, edit, translate, alter, combine with other material, reuse and adapt any or all portions of any submission in any way and for any purpose whatsoever, at any time, now or in the future, in any media now known or hereafter devised throughout the world in any manner whatsoever and for any purpose. Submissions that are not in accordance with the guidelines as stated herein or are not received during the contest submission period will be ineligible. By submitting a submission each Submitter warrants and represents that the video: (a) is the Submitter’s or the Submitter’s team’s original work, (b) has not been previously published, (c) does not infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, rights of privacy, publicity or other intellectual property or other rights of any person or entity; (d) the Submitter (and/or his/her team) have obtained permission from any person who appears in the submission or whose name, likeness or voice appears or is used in the submission, and (e) that publication of the submission via various media, including online posting, will not infringe on the rights of any third party.

    Each Submitter’s submission must be without restriction and not impose any obligations on the AMA; AMA is free to disclose the ideas contained in the submission on a non-confidential basis to anyone or otherwise use the ideas without any additional compensation. Each Submitter acknowledges AMA does not waive any rights to use similar or related ideas previously known to AMA, or developed by its employees, or obtained from other sources.

  6. INDEMNIFICATION: Each Submitter promises to indemnify and hold harmless AMA from any claims that may arise based on facts that are inconsistent with the representations and warranties made by the Submitter(s).

  7. PERMISSIONS: Any Submitter whose submission includes likenesses of third parties or contains elements not owned by the Submitter (such as, but not limited to, depictions of persons, buildings, trademarks, logos or music) must be able to provide, upon request, legal releases/licenses for such use (including AMA’s use of such elements) in a Model Release Form, a Property Release Form or Music License Form (as appropriate) completed in a manner satisfactory to AMA, prior to award of the prize and/or the consideration of the Submitter’s submission as a finalist video.

  8. 8. CONTEST JUDGING: Videos will be judged on their ability to deliver a high impact message on the significance of proposed cuts to Graduate Medical Education (GME) and their likely effect on students and the American health care system. One winner will be selected and an undetermined number of “finalist videos” will be selected based on factors deemed relevant to the judges in their sole discretion. As part of the selection process, Submitters may be contacted to verify their eligibility. Limit one finalist video per Submitter (whether as an individual or as part of a team). Any submission, in the sole opinion of AMA, deemed inappropriate for publication shall be ineligible. Incomplete, illegible, false, deceptive or garbled submissions are not eligible.

  9. PRIZE DETAILS: The grand prize is a new black Apple i-Pad 2 (Wi-Fi version with 16 GB memory). The approximate cash value of the prize is $400. The prize shall be awarded “where is, as is” without any network/telecommunication subscriptions or other ancillary products, services or features. All associated taxes and other expenses not described in the prize are the winner’s sole responsibility.

  10. LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY AND RELEASE: No liability or responsibility is assumed by AMA or any parties associated with this contest resulting from Submitter’s submission in the contest in or attempt to participate in the contest or ability or inability to upload or download any information in connection with the contest. No responsibility or liability is assumed by the for technical problems or technical malfunction arising in connection with any of the following occurrences which may affect the operation of the contest: hardware or software errors; faulty computer, cable, satellite, network, electronic, Internet connectivity or other online or network communication problems; errors or limitations of any Internet service providers, servers, hosts or other providers; garbled, jumbled or faulty data transmissions; failure of any online transmissions to be sent or received; lost, late, delayed or intercepted transmissions; inaccessibility of the website in whole or in part for any reason; traffic congestion on the Internet or the website; unauthorized human or non-human intervention of the operation of the contest, including without limitation, unauthorized tampering, hacking, theft, virus, bugs, or worms; or destruction of any aspect of the contest, or loss, miscount, misdirection, inaccessibility or unavailability of an email account used in connection with the contest. AMA is not responsible for any printing, typographical, technical, computer, network, human or other error which may occur in the administration of the contest, the uploading, the processing or judging of submissions or votes or the tabulating of votes, the announcement of the prizes or in any contest-related materials. Use of website is at user’s own risk. AMA is not responsible for any personal injury or property damage or losses of any kind which may be sustained to Submitter, Submitter’s computer equipment or any other person’s computer equipment resulting from participation in the contest. Should any portion of the contest be, in AMA’s sole opinion, compromised by virus, worms, bugs, non-authorized human intervention, technical failures or other causes which corrupt or impair the administration, security, fairness or proper play, or uploading of submissions, AMA reserves the right to suspend, modify or terminate the contest, and select the winners from eligible submissions received prior to action taken or as otherwise deemed fair and appropriate by AMA.

  11. CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION: Submitters promise, if judged the winner of the contest, to sign and return to the AMA (as a condition of winning the contest) an AMA-provided Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability/Publicity Release form before collecting his/her prize or the prize will be forfeited. If a winner is found to be ineligible or not in compliance with these Official Rules, the prize will be forfeited and an alternate winner will be selected.
